Rimside Lateral Water Users Association
— 2025 Water Season —

This page is intended solely to provide certain information to the water users of the Rimside Lateral.   It is not a replacement for the printed Irrigation Schedule, nor for any other information covered at meetings or distributed by the Association

Hi folks! The annual meeting came together on March 12th, and a copy of the minutes can be found here. The new officers have been elected for 2025, and many familiar faces are reprising their rolls. Beyond this, the proposed amendments to our by-laws were approved, with a copy being available here: Association rules as amended. The other big item to note, the per-acre assessment this year will be increasing to $400 to cover several large repair jobs. More details can be found in the minutes.

Otherwise, for irrigation this year, here are the usual things to keep in mind:

First, adhering to the published water use schedule is always important; taking "just" an extra 15-30 minutes of water for one user can have serious cascading effects for many users. Flooders especially need to adhere strictly to their ending times, as it may take a while for their full water usage to travel downstream to the next group of waiting Rimside water users.

Second, if you for any reason (leaving town, bad water pump, forget, etc.) miss your scheduled water day/time, this has to remain your issue and your problem; you cannot make it anyone else's issue/problem by just grabbing some water duirng a time slot that is not scheduled for your use.

Rest assured... there is no "extra" water in the system. And nobody using the system's water will ever be able to get all of the water from the system that they want or "need." Irrigation water is ONLY supplemental water; our primary water source has to be either the City of Boise or a private well.

Where does our water come from?   The Rimside Lateral (which provides the water that we use for our lawns and gardens) is connected to a larger ditch-pipe combination called the Tuttle Lateral just north of the intersection of Kelly Way and Ustick Road.   The Tuttle Lateral (which connects to the Ridenbaugh Canal) is the larger water source from which we draw our water directly; less water in the Tuttle Lateral means less water for us (and for the dozens of other Water Associations that use it as their water source), and more water in the Tuttle Lateral means more water for us - up to the limit set by the Nampa-Meridian Irrigation District.

The following documents will assist you in most effectively and efficiently watering your lawns, gardens, shrubs and trees (hint: watering every day is NOT efficient).
Watering Home Lawns: How Much? from the University of Idaho Extension Department;
Watering Home Lawns and Landscapes from the University of Idaho College of Agriculture and Life Sciences;
and Lawn Watering - a collection of information from cited Internet sources, compiled by your Lateral Manager.

If the water in the Rimside Lateral needs to be shut off in order to make repairs (or for any other reason), information to that effect will be posted here.
Remember -- each water user is responsible for the condition of the Lateral pipe/ditch/box(es) on their property, and also is responsible for the unimpeded flow of water across their property.   If you need to make repairs to the Lateral, or to a sublateral branching from it, or to a junction/clean-out box on your property, please let the Rimside Lateral Manager know as soon as possible -- John Johnson, 208-284-6134 -- so that the water can be turned off and a notice to that effect put up on this web page.   Thank you!
